Here are just a few suggestions for ways in which the Science department at Foulstone school can make use of the innovative technology available at the CLCs. If you would like to explore the possibilities of these or any other technologies, please contact Stephen Quayle or Shirley Corns at the Foulstone CLC or Dean McFarlane or Claire Thorpe at the Holgate CLC for a preliminary chat.
Science Department
Macromedia Flash
Get your students to create animations that illustrate scientific phenomena and
concepts such as electrolysis, radioactive decay, photosynthesis or mitosis.
iStop Motion
Set up a digital camera to create a time-lapse film of natural phenomena such as
the movement of the sun across the sky or the germination of seeds. Alternatively,
use modeling clay animation to demonstrate the movement of planets or
Darwinian evolution.
Digital Video
Let teams of students create documentaries that explore current scientific issues
or “recreate” scientific discoveries from the past. Set up demonstrations of
scientific phenomena and experiments.
Macromedia Dreamweaver
Get your students to collaborate to create professional looking web sites that
demonstrate their understanding of several units in a GCSE science course. The
site can then be put on the Internet and used as a valuable revision aid later on.
Kar2ouche and Krucible
Create storyboards, multimedia presentations and simulations using pre-prepared
materials on subjects of elements and atoms, electricity, earth and the universe, ,
health and disease, living things and natural selection
Open Mind
This mind mapping tool would be particularly useful to illustrate concepts such as
binomial keys, ecosystems and food chains. You could also use it to organize
knowledge and relate concepts as part of a revision session.
Mediator 7
This powerful and easy to use multimedia authoring tool will allow your students
to create presentations that go way beyond Powerpoint and allow them to
produce CD ROMs and websites at the click of a mouse.
