Here are just a few suggestions for ways in which the Maths department at Foulstone school can make use of the innovative technology available at the CLCs. If you would like to explore the possibilities of these or any other technologies, please contact Stephen Quayle or Shirley Corns at the Foulstone CLC or Dean McFarlane or Claire Thorpe at the Holgate CLC for a preliminary chat.
Maths Department
Maths in motion
This software allows students work in groups to set up racing cars to race
against each other. Teams must take into account numerous variables and
calculations in order to be successful.
iStop Motion
Set up a digital camera to create a time-lapse film of the movement of the sun
across the sky or the motion of a falling body. Use the film as a basis for
mathematical modelling.
Digital Video
Let teams of students create short films that illustrate their knowledge of various
aspects of Mathematics.
Macromedia Dreamweaver
Get your students to collaborate to create professional looking web sites that
demonstrate their understanding of several units in the GCSE maths course. The
site can then be put on the Internet and used as a valuable revision aid later on.
Computer Programming
Why not get your students to create simple C++ or Java programs that will
automatically carry out calculations such as the area of a circle, the average speed of
a car journey or the volume of a cube?
