Here are just a few suggestions for ways in which the History department at Foulstone school can make use of the innovative technology available at the CLCs. If you would like to explore the possibilities of these or any other technologies, please contact Stephen Quayle or Shirley Corns at the Foulstone CLC or Dean McFarlane or Claire Thorpe at the Holgate CLC for a preliminary chat.

History Department

Macromedia Flash
Get your students to create animations that illustrate historical events.

iStop Motion
Use clay animation, miniature sets and voice-over techniques to bring historical figures and events to life.

Digital Video
Let teams of students create documentaries that explore controversial issues in modern history. Set up mock interviews with historical figures by using actors and scripted role playing. Alternatively, re-enact actual historical events from different perspectives.

Macromedia Dreamweaver
Get your students to collaborate to create professional looking web sites that demonstrate their understanding of several units in a GCSE History course. The site can then be put on the Internet and used as a valuable revision aid later on.

Kar2ouche
Create storyboards and multimedia presentations using pre-prepared materials on the Romans, the Egyptians, the Normans and the Vikings.

Open Mind
This mind mapping tool would be particularly useful for creating timelines that link historical events. You could also use it to organize knowledge and relate ideas as part of a revision session.

Mediator 7
This powerful and easy to use multimedia authoring tool will allow your students to create presentations that go way beyond Powerpoint and allow them to produce CD ROMs and websites at the click of a mouse.
