Here are just a few suggestions for ways in which the Geography department at Foulstone school can make use of the innovative technology available at the CLCs. If you would like to explore the possibilities of these or any other technologies, please contact Stephen Quayle or Shirley Corns at the Foulstone CLC or Dean McFarlane or Claire Thorpe at the Holgate CLC for a preliminary chat.
Geography Department
Macromedia Flash
Get your students to create animations that illustrate geological or meteorological
phenomena.
iStop Motion
Use clay animation to illustrate volcanic eruptions, the formation of early
settlements or the development of towns and cities.
Digital Video
Let teams of students create documentaries that explore various aspects of
geography such as weathering, glaciation or demographics.
Macromedia Dreamweaver
Get your students to collaborate to create professional looking web sites that
demonstrate their understanding of several units in a GCSE science course. The
site can then be put on the Internet and used as a valuable revision aid later on.
Digital Video
Document the implementation and testing stages of a design project on film. This
will encourage students to critically evaluate their work and provide them with a
unique record of their achievements.
Open Mind
This mind mapping tool can be used to brainstorm ideas at the beginning of a new
unit. You could also use it to organize knowledge and relate concepts as part of a
revision session.
Weather Station
The CLC has a weather station housed on the roof. Use the data that it generates
to allow your students to study the local weather.
Digital Worlds
This powerful mapping tool contains a database of local maps that allows you to
demonstrate the various applications of mapping from recording physical features
to exploring the history and demographic make up of the Darfield area.
