Here are just a few suggestions for ways in which the English department at Foulstone school can make use of the innovative technology available at the CLCs. If you would like to explore the possibilities of these or any other technologies, please contact Stephen Quayle or Shirley Corns at the Foulstone CLC or Dean McFarlane or Claire Thorpe at the Holgate CLC for a preliminary chat.

English Department

Macromedia Flash
Get your students to create animations that illustrate poems or scenes from plays and novels.

Macromedia Dreamweaver
Get your students to collaborate to create professional looking web sites that demonstrate their understanding of a novel or collection of poems. The site can then be put on the Internet and used as a valuable revision aid later on.

iStop Motion
Use clay animation to bring to life the characters in a play or novel. Alternatively, get your students to collaborate to produce an original short animation based on their own creative writing project.

Digital Video
Let teams of students create documentaries that explore historical issues raised in novels. Alternatively, let students write, direct and act in their own short films that they can base on set texts or original creative writing.

Kar2ouche
Create storyboards and multimedia presentations using pre-prepared materials on texts such as Macbeth, Tam O’ Shanter, Hamlet, Twelfth Night and Romeo and Juliet.

Open Mind
This mind mapping tool would be particularly useful for organizing students’ ideas when they are analyzing poems, novels and plays. They could also set up mind maps for various elements of a course that could be used as revision aids later on.

Mediator 7
This powerful and easy to use multimedia authoring tool will allow your students to create presentations that go way beyond Powerpoint and allow them to produce CD ROMs and websites at the click of a mouse.
