Here are just a few suggestions for ways in which the Design and Technology department at Foulstone school can make use of the innovative technology available at the CLCs. If you would like to explore the possibilities of these or any other technologies, please contact Stephen Quayle or Shirley Corns at the Foulstone CLC or Dean McFarlane or Claire Thorpe at the Holgate CLC for a preliminary chat.
D and T Department
Macromedia Flash
Get your students to create animations that illustrate their design ideas.
Lego Robotics
Use the Lego robots equipment in tandem with the control program Robolab to
teach students the basics of systems and control. Pupils will be taken through the
planning of a system to fulfil a specific task (such as checking deep sea gas pipelines
for faults).
Macromedia Dreamweaver
Get your students to collaborate to create professional looking web sites that
showcase their designs and act as a multimedia record of the life cycle of a
particular project.
Digital Video
Document the implementation and testing stages of a design project on film. This
will encourage students to critically evaluate their work and provide them with a
unique record of their achievements.
Open Mind
This mind mapping tool would be particularly useful for brainstorming ideas at the
beginning of a project. It will automatically produce organized documentation to
back up the analysis and design stages of the project.
Mediator 7
This powerful and easy to use multimedia authoring tool will allow your students
to rapidly create presentations that showcase their work in the form of a CD
ROM and/or a website.
